Oklahoma City Animal Shelter introduces new intake policy to manage overpopulation
The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter is implementing a revised intake policy effective immediately to address the challenges of pet overpopulation in our community. Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Shelter will limit daily intake to 30 dogs and 30 cats.

Adoption fees for dogs at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter will be waived Aug. 31, courtesy of shelter transfer partner Nexus Pets, Arnall Community Funds and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.

Brock Rowe hired to replace Rick Wickenkamp as OKC’s Development Services Director
Oklahoma City Manager Craig Freeman has selected Brock Rowe to succeed Rick Wickenkamp as the director of the Development Services Department. Rowe is the Director of Building Services for the City of Springfield, Missouri, where he is the code official and floodplain administrator.

The Juneteenth (Wednesday, June 19) holiday schedule for City of OKC services: Trash, recycling and bulky waste collection services are not affected. Free fares for EMBARK buses, OKC Streetcar and RAPID. OKC buses operate on a weekend schedule.

OKC Animal Welfare urgently seeks homes for hundreds of dogs
Oklahoma City’s Animal Shelter is facing a dire overcrowding challenge. It is housing over 400 dogs, including vulnerable puppies, in immediate need of homes. In response to the overcapacity, the Shelter is waiving all dog adoption fees until the population drops to a manageable level.

Protect your pets in freezing weather; doghouse donations needed
Dog owners are reminded to protect their dogs from the elements when the temperature dips below 32 degrees. A dog is considered outside if it has an unheated doghouse or other unheated structure. The structure should have a safe heat source. Vehicles are not considered adequate shelter.

As of Dec. 20, 438 dogs are calling the Shelter home, putting the building at 147% capacity. More than 100 Shelter dogs are ready for adoption. All the dogs on this list are considered an urgent need.

OKC Animal Welfare wants 100 dog adoptions during “Sweater Weather” event
Oklahoma City Animal Welfare set a big goal. The Shelter wants to see 100 dogs adopted by 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, to greatly reduce the overcrowding among the dog population.
