Oklahoma City Animal Welfare rescues more than 24,000 animals each year.

All stray animals are held for at least five days if the animal has identification and at least three days if it doesn't. We make every effort to reunite owners with stray pets that have current identification. Animals are evaluated for health and behavior after the hold period, and then they may be placed in our adoption program. There's no time limit for animals to remain in our care once they are in the adoption program.

Lost Pets

Search online for a lost pet
Report a lost dog or a lost cat or another kind of lost pet

Check the OKC Animal Shelter daily if you lose your pet. Report your dog, cat or other pet as lost on our website and search through pictures and reports of found animals. We encourage you to research the many other available resources for lost and found animals, including social media. Don't forget to make a flyer of your lost pet and post it in your neighborhood. Never give up.

Found Pets

Report a found dog or a found cat or another kind of found pet

The shelter will accept ill, injured, or menacing animals found in Oklahoma City, Del City, Nichols Hills, and on Tinker Air Force Base. If you find a healthy stray, please give it a temporary home while searching for its owner. If you can't, leave it where it is. Ninety percent of animals are found within a mile of home and leaving them there increases the chance they will return or be easily found.

You can file a report for a found dog, cat or other pet, and post the pet's picture online and on flyers in the area. Take the animal to a vet for a microchip scan. If the pet has an Oklahoma City rabies tag or OKC Animal Welfare tattoo, call (405) 297-3100 or emai awinfo@okc.gov.
