OKC invites residents to dispose of computers, tires, ammunition and medications during April 12 special collection
Oklahoma City will host a special collection of unwanted computers, tires, ammunition and prescription medications from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at the OKC Fairgrounds. The drop-off site will be on the south side of the fairgrounds, east of the Jim Norick Arena.

City Council approves resolution to support canoe slalom and softball events for LA28
Today, the Oklahoma City Council unanimously approved a resolution expressing full support and commitment to staging the canoe slalom and softball events in OKC as part of the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028.

Downtown street closures for Festival of the Arts April 11 – May 5
Temporary street closures before, during and after the Festival of the Arts will affect downtown traffic April 11 - May 5. The Festival will take place April 24-27 in Bicentennial Park, between the Civic Center Music Hall and City Hall.

OKC recognizes Fair Housing Month
April marks the 57th anniversary of the passage of the Federal Fair Housing Act. It was signed into law by President Lyndon Johnson on April 11, 1968. The Fair Housing Act makes it illegal to discriminate in the sale, rental, financing and advertising of housing based on race, religion and more.

OKC Will Rogers International Airport to offer Global Entry appointments April 14-15
OKC travelers can now enroll in Global Entry, a trusted traveler program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, onsite at OKC Will Rogers International Airport during a two-day event on April 14 and 15. Interested Global Entry travelers must enroll online at https://ttp.dhs.gov/.

Construction is underway for Ward 7’s Dewey Park
Construction is underway on a new 4-acre park in northeast Oklahoma City. The former Dewey Elementary School, 3500 N. Lindsay Ave., was purchased by the City of Oklahoma City in December 2024 from Oklahoma City Public Schools to develop a new park in Ward 7.

Planning Commissioner Camal Pennington was elected to represent Oklahoma City Council’s Ward 7, defeating former councilperson John Pettis, Jr. in the April 1 Oklahoma City Council runoff election. Ward 7 is primarily located in NE OKC.

OKC officially approved as site for LA28 Canoe Slalom and Softball competitions
The Los Angeles City Council voted today to approve the LA28 revised venue proposal, relocating Canoe Slalom to Oklahoma City, where it will join Softball in top-tier, purpose-built venues.

OKC’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center closed March 28
Oklahoma City’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center at 1621 S. Portland Ave. will be closed Friday, March 28, for maintenance and will reopen Saturday, March 29. The Center accepts a variety of hazardous materials from residents’ homes year-round.

Contractor selected to demolish former convention center
On Tuesday, the Oklahoma City Council approved a contract with Midwest Wrecking to demolish Prairie Surf Studios, formerly the Cox/Myriad Convention Center, making way for the new Paycom Center to be built on the City-owned site.

Oklahoma City receives highest possible bond ratings for 17 years in a row
S&P Global Ratings affirmed the City’s AAA long-term rating and stable outlook in a March 11, 2025, report, and Moodys affirmed its Aaa rating in a March 6, 2025, report. The triple-A ratings are the highest awarded by each agency.
