Council accepts School Resource Officer contract with Oklahoma City Public Schools
On Tuesday, August 1, the Oklahoma City Council approved the School Resource Officer (SRO) contract with Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) for the 2023-24 school year. It requires the Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) to provide school resource officers for OKCPS schools.

Oklahoma City’s July sales and use tax summary
Oklahoma City’s July sales and use tax report shows combined General Fund collections were above this month last year and above the combined monthly projection. The July report includes tax collections for the last half of May and estimated collections in the first half of June.

OKC Animal Shelter to reopen for adoptions only July 21-23; limited intake begins July 24
Oklahoma City’s Animal Shelter invites residents and animal lovers to its reopening adoption weekend July 21-23. All adoptable dogs and cats are up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, treated for worms and spayed or neutered. About 200 dogs and 10 cats are available for adoption.

OKC to host hiring fair for animal welfare officers July 27
People 18 and older who want to make a difference in the lives of animals are invited to interview for animal welfare officer positions with the City of Oklahoma City. A come-and-go hiring fair will be held downtown between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on July 27 at 420 West Main St.

Portion of North Meridian Avenue closed for repairs after water main break
A section of N Meridian Avenue from NW 53rd to NW 60th Street will be closed for about two weeks while City crews make needed repairs after a 24-inch water main broke in the area, causing significant damage to a portion of the street.

Oklahoma City’s diverse history will come alive during a free presentation by Oklahoma historian and author Dr. Bob Blackburn during the July Human Rights Commission meeting. The presentation, which is open to the public, will be held at noon Tuesday, July 25, in the City Council Chamber.

OKC Parks brings musical ‘Godspell’ to outdoor amphitheater
Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation brings the Broadway hit “Godspell” to the Will Rogers Park Amphitheater in Will Rogers Park, 3400 N Portland Ave. Exit Pat Murphy Drive from North Portland Avenue or North Grand Boulevard. The show runs from 8-10 p.m. July 5-9.

Oklahoma City releases water quality report
The City’s annual Drinking Water Quality Report, known as the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), shows that water tested during 2022 met the requirements from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality (ODEQ).

The City of Oklahoma City is seeking hundreds of volunteers to be a part of a national campaign to map extreme heat in urban areas. More than 300 people are needed to capture temperature and air quality data across the city along predetermined routes.

$2.8 million available for environmental cleanup projects in Oklahoma City
The City of Oklahoma City’s Brownfields program has $2.8 million to fund environmental cleanup that supports redevelopment projects within Oklahoma City limits. The funds can be used to remove asbestos, lead and other hazardous material from buildings and the ground.

Oklahoma City opens first recreation center in over 40 years, hosts grand opening July 15
The community is invited to attend the grand opening for the Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Fredrick Douglass Ave., from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. July 15. The $17.5 million state-of-the-art recreation center is named after former Ward 7 Councilwoman Willa D. Johnson.
