Oklahoma City’s September sales and use tax summary
Oklahoma City’s September sales and use tax report shows combined General Fund collections were below this month last year and below the combined monthly projection. The General Fund pays for the City’s day-to-day operations. Sales tax is the General Fund’s largest single source of revenue.

OKC Animal Shelter to reopen for adoptions only starting Sept. 22 with waived adoption fees
Oklahoma City’s Animal Shelter encourages residents and animal lovers to adopt a dog and/or cat during its reopening event Sept. 22. Dog and cat adoption fees are waived to help relieve overcapacity at the Shelter. All adoptable dogs and cats are up-to-date on vaccinations and microchipped.

Construction on Lake Hefner Golf Clubhouse to begin in 2024

Mayor Holt announces plan to build new arena without raising taxes, includes commitment by the Thunder to play in new arena beyond 2050 if voters approve
After 14 months of public discussion and collaborative dialogue between Oklahoma City leaders and the leadership of the Oklahoma City Thunder, a plan has been finalized to construct a new downtown arena that will keep the Thunder in Oklahoma City for a generation and beyond 2050.

Enroll in EMSAcare in September to cover your household for emergency ambulance service
September is EMSAcare month in Oklahoma City, when Oklahoma City residents may change their membership with the ambulance service from Sept. 1-30. EMSAcare covers the out-of-pocket expenses for emergency ambulance transports ending at a hospital ER anywhere in the EMSA service area.

The Labor Day holiday schedule for City of OKC services is as follows. No trash or recycling pickup. Makeup day Wednesday, Sept. 6. Bulky waste pickup not affected. EMBARK buses on weekend schedule. OKC Streetcar on a regular. Free fares for both. EMBARK customer service closed.

OKC Parks hiring lifeguards for indoor aquatic centers
The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department is hiring 25 lifeguards to work year-round at the indoor Family Aquatic Center located at the newly opened Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center, 909 Frederick Douglass Ave., and the hybrid fitness pool at the Pete White Health and Wellness Center.

Oklahoma City initiates inspections for water service line inventory
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department has launched a pilot study to inspect and inventory 8,500 public and private water service lines. The initiative is being carried out in accordance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) requirement for all water systems.

OKC Animal Shelter closes for a third time this year after respiratory outbreak
The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter is closed to the public for the third time this year to keep an upper respiratory infection from spreading through the Shelter and to other dogs in the metro.

Animal Welfare waives dog and cat adoption fees to relieve overcapacity
Oklahoma City Animal Welfare encourages everyone to adopt a dog or cat this month from the OKC Animal Shelter. In celebration of Clear the Shelters Month, the Animal Shelter is waiving adoption fees for all dogs and cats until Aug. 26.

OKC seeks input on updated cycling and pedestrian master plan
Oklahoma City residents and trail users are invited to give their feedback on proposed updates to the City’s comprehensive bike and pedestrian plan, bikewalkokc. People can visit okc.gov/bikewalkokc to read the 137-page draft plan and submit comments through Sept. 15.

Animal Shelter to temporarily close Sundays and Mondays
Because of staffing capacity issues, the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter will temporarily close Sundays and Mondays until recently hired employees can complete onboarding. This change takes effect Sunday, Aug. 13.

OKC residents can contact the Action Center to report code violations and non-emergency issues
To keep 911 phone lines clear for people experiencing emergencies, the City asks residents to report non-emergency issues to the Action Center. Besides getting answers to questions about City services and reporting code violations, residents can also report suspected criminal activity.

City Council passes resolution to establish a Community Public Safety Advisory Board
The Oklahoma City Council voted Tuesday, August 1, to establish a Community Public Safety Advisory Board to serve as a permanent and independent resident advisory group in Oklahoma City that will review the complaint investigative process and results of completed complaint investigations.
