The Collective, a new restaurant and retail development in Midtown, is on a site that was most recently used for automobile storage, so the developers knew they were likely in for some environmental remediation.

"Being a small company, site assessment was going to be a significant expense. The City's brownfields program helped us mitigate these costs," said Kayla Baker of Northline Development.

The City's Planning Department staff with expertise in brownfields partnered with Northline to assess the site and plan possible cleanup. Surface contamination was discovered, and cleanup allowed Northline to proceed with their development.

The new development is part of the ongoing infill renaissance in the Midtown area, one of the hottest parts of town.

About 60 new jobs are expected to be created by the new businesses in the development, which is fully leased out.
