Oklahoma City has launched a call-to-artist, inviting artists to create a quintessential sculpture commemorating the 100th anniversary of historic U.S. Route 66. The artwork will be installed on or near North Classen Boulevard, part of the original 1926 route.

Oklahoma City Council voted today to approve a master plan for the MAPS 4 Beautification project. MAPS 4 includes $32.9 million to help improve the appearance of Oklahoma City with targeted investments in beautification, including $5 million for an operating fund to provide permanent staff.

Celebrated local artist Ernesto Sanchez’s expansive 9 x 20-foot oil on panel “Massive Communication” is now featured on the third floor of the Oklahoma City Convention Center thanks to a reciprocal public art loan agreement between OKC, the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and the Convention Center.

Three new ceramic tile murals, paying homage to the district’s rich history, are now installed in the Paseo Arts District. Local mother-daughter artist duo Nicole and Aztrid Moan wanted to honor the City’s history while celebrating the district’s growth.

The 3-dimensional multimedia artwork was created by local artist duo Scott Henderson and Kyle Van Osdol and was designed to celebrate Oklahoma City’s Sister Cities: Haikou, China; Kigali City, Rwanda; Puebla, Mexico; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Tainan, Taiwan; Taipei, Taiwan; and Piura, Peru.
