TIF allocation approved for Oklahoma City Public Schools admin building project

The Council voted Tuesday to approve an allocation of $10 million in tax increment finance (TIF) assistance to Oklahoma City Public Schools (OKCPS) for an administration building project. OKCPS is planning to redevelop the property at 615 N Classen Blvd. as part of capital improvements throughout the district.

Preliminary report approved for MAPS 3 Convention Center

The Council approved the preliminary report for the MAPS 3 Downtown Convention Center, bringing it one step closer to its scheduled groundbreaking late this year. The convention center, to be located south of Chesapeake Energy Arena adjacent to the future MAPS 3 Park, will feature sleek modern design, sweeping downtown views, 200,000 square feet of exhibit space, 45,000 square feet of meeting rooms and a 30,000-square-foot ballroom.

Council approves purchase of seventh streetcar for MAPS 3 OKC Streetcar system

The Council voted to approve the purchase of a seventh streetcar from Brookville Equipment for the MAPS 3 OKC Streetcar system. The seventh streetcar will help provide service for more people during peak use times and ensure on-time performance throughout the system when other cars are out of service for maintenance. The funds to purchase another car became available when construction bids for the track line came in well under budget, allowing the seventh car to be purchased within the original overall project budget. The OKC Streetcar will be operated by EMBARK.

Oklahoma City's February sales tax summary

The February sales tax report shows General Fund collections in Oklahoma City were down 5.8 percent compared to the same month last year, below the monthly projection by 3.9 percent. The February report includes collections for the last half of December and estimated collections in the first half of January, which total about $18.1 million for the General Fund. That’s around $733,000 below the projection. February is the eighth month of the fiscal year, and General Fund sales tax revenue is about 0.7 percent (about $1 million) below the amended year-to-date projection. General Fund sales tax revenue has declined compared to the same month the previous year in 16 of the last 17 months, including 10 in a row. The General Fund pays for the City’s day-to-day operations. Sales tax is the City’s largest single source of revenue.

Vote in two weeks on permanent adoption of bi-weekly meeting schedule

The Council will meet every-other-week on a permanent basis if an ordinance change considered Tuesday is approved. The first Council meeting of every calendar year would be held on the first Tuesday in January (except on New Year's Day). Council meetings would follow every other Tuesday for the rest of the year, except in May and June when the Council meets weekly as it prepares to adopt the City budget. The ordinance change was introduced Feb. 14, had a public hearing Tuesday and is set for a vote on March 14.
