Mayor, City Manager to serve on Oklahoma City Schools Compact board

The Council voted Tuesday to declare its official support for the Oklahoma City Schools Compact and appoint Mayor Mick Cornett and City Manager James D. Couch to its governing body. The compact is a partnership between Oklahoma City Public Schools, the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber, the Foundation for Oklahoma City Public Schools, the City of Oklahoma City and the United Way of Central Oklahoma. Its goals are to support stable leadership of local public schools and engage community organizations to help. The Mayor and City Manager will be among local civic leaders helping to shape the compact's efforts.

OKC Animal Welfare's 2015 statistics show improvements that help local pets

Oklahoma City Animal Welfare is making life better for our community’s pets, finding forever homes for more pets and ensuring fewer strays need shelter. Seven out of every 10 animals that entered the OKC Animal Shelter were reunited with their owners, adopted directly into a forever home or transferred to an animal advocacy group for other adoption programs. That’s the Shelter’s best live release rate in memory.

Crystal Lake designated as City Park

The Council voted Tuesday to designate Crystal Lake as an official City of OKC Park, which will help it be more effectively integrated into planning and development of the park system and provide the potential for future improvements. Crystal Lake, 6625 SW 15, is owned by the City and leased to the Oklahoma City Riverfront Redevelopment Authority, and City Care has provided maintenance, operation, development and programming since a 2010 agreement. The City Care agreement will remain in place as Crystal Lake is integrated into the City park system. The MAPS 3 West River Trail winds past Crystal Lake on its path between Lake Overholser and the Oklahoma River.
