Teen, preteen musicians invited to Genesis HBCU Band Challenge with OKC Parks
Young musicians aged 10-16 are invited to participate in the Genesis HBCU Band Challenge, a summer-long music camp. Each camp session will be held at Pitts Recreation Center, 1920 N Kate Ave., from 5:30 to 8 p.m. every Monday and Thursday beginning June 3.

Golfers are invited to celebrate Father’s Day weekend with a friendly game of golf. Join OKC Parks for its second annual Family Tree Golf Tournament at Lake Hefner Golf Course, 4491 S Lake Hefner Dr., at 8 a.m. June 15.

Greenway River Trail and a portion of the South Oklahoma River Trail temporarily closed
A section of the Greenway River Trail between the Boathouse District and Eastern Avenue is closed for one year, and a section of the south side of the Oklahoma River Trail between Eastern and Eagle Lake will close for nine months.

MAPS 4 to begin construction on pedestrian bridge over Oklahoma River
Construction has begun on a bike and pedestrian bridge that will span the Oklahoma River at Eastern Avenue, north of OKANA Resort and Indoor Waterpark. The MAPS 4 pedestrian bridge will connect the trail on the south shore to the four-mile Greenway River Trail on the north shore.

Oklahoma City Council sets election to raise hotel tax to promote tourism
Oklahoma City Council set a Citywide election for Aug. 27 to increase the hotel tax from 5.50% to 9.25%. The tax is charged to people who stay overnight in a hotel or rent a home-sharing property in OKC.

OKC City Council approves development agreement for new arena
On Tuesday, May 21, the Oklahoma City Council approved a development agreement for the City’s new arena between the City and PBC Sports and Entertainment, LLC (PBCS&E), owners of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Oklahoma City Blue.

Oklahoma City’s Memorial Day holiday schedule
No trash or recycling pickup. Makeup day Wednesday, May 29. Bulky waste pickup not affected. Free fares for EMBARK buses, OKC Streetcar and RAPID. OKC buses operate on a weekend schedule. RAPID operates on a 30-minute frequency from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. OKC Streetcar operates on a regular schedule.

OKC forms Crisis Intervention Advisory Group (CIAG) to improve mental health crisis response citywide
A Crisis Intervention Advisory Group (CIAG) has been formed to ensure best practices are used during encounters between police and residents experiencing a mental health crisis. The CIAG has started meeting on a quarterly basis.

MAPS 4 to improve 140 EMBARK bus stops in 2024
The City of Oklahoma City will improve 140 EMBARK bus stops this year in the first phase of the MAPS 4 Bus Stop Improvements project. The enhancements will provide ADA-accessible, covered transit shelters with security lighting, trash receptacles and bike racks.

The Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) unveiled its latest crisis response initiative to police employees with the launch of the Mental Health Response Protocol Guide. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, nearly 1 in 25 adults in America live with a serious mental illness.

S&P Global Ratings (Standard & Poor’s) and Moody’s Investors Service (Moody’s) have assigned (2024 bonds) and reaffirmed (bonds outstanding) AAA and Aaa ratings for the Oklahoma City Water Utilities Trust (OCWUT).
