Oklahoma City Animal Shelter introduces new intake policy to manage overpopulation
The Oklahoma City Animal Shelter is implementing a revised intake policy effective immediately to address the challenges of pet overpopulation in our community. Starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Shelter will limit daily intake to 30 dogs and 30 cats.

Oklahoma City Animal Shelter waives dog adoption fees all summer long
Adoption fees for dogs at the Oklahoma City Animal Shelter will be waived Aug. 31, courtesy of shelter transfer partner Nexus Pets, Arnall Community Funds and the Oklahoma City Community Foundation.

Brock Rowe hired to replace Rick Wickenkamp as OKC’s Development Services Director
Oklahoma City Manager Craig Freeman has selected Brock Rowe to succeed Rick Wickenkamp as the director of the Development Services Department. Rowe is the Director of Building Services for the City of Springfield, Missouri, where he is the code official and floodplain administrator.

Construction begins on football fields in Edwards Park
For decades, Edwards Park, 1515 N Bryant Ave., has been home to many youth football programs. Now, the park’s athletic fields are getting some much-anticipated upgrades. Contractors are scrapping the existing three youth football fields and replacing them with four new football fields.

The Juneteenth (Wednesday, June 19) holiday schedule for City of OKC services: Trash, recycling and bulky waste collection services are not affected. Free fares for EMBARK buses, OKC Streetcar and RAPID. OKC buses operate on a weekend schedule.

Oklahoma City seeks public input for Vision Zero Plan to eliminate roadway fatalities
The City of OKC invites everyone who lives, works, or travels within the city limits to provide input on its Vision Zero Plan for transportation safety. Survey results will help staff implement strategies to make transportation safer and, eventually, eliminate deadly crashes on OKC streets.

OKC sets new requirements for private development water and wastewater infrastructure effective November 1
The Oklahoma City Utilities Department has released a Private Development Design Manual that outlines current and new requirements for water and wastewater infrastructure for private development. The new requirements take effect Nov. 1, 2024.

Oklahoma City Council adopts 2025 budget
The Oklahoma City Council on Tuesday adopted the City Manager’s 2025 budget. Visit okc.gov/budget to see the budget book. The operating budget, which pays for day-to-day operations, is $918 million.The adopted budget includes funding for 5,117 full-time positions, an increase of nine from FY 24.

Oklahoma City releases annual 2024 Point in Time Count
While the number of total unhoused people increased in 2024, there is good news. The total percentage of OKC’s unsheltered population experiencing chronic homelessness fell to 48%, a 14% decrease from 2023.
