High school and career technology juniors and seniors from across the metro area are invited to a hiring event for full- and part-time positions with the City of Oklahoma City. Sophomores interested in learning more about the Oklahoma City Police Cadet program may also attend.

Ruptured water main closes portion of North Pennsylvania Avenue; repairs underway
OKC Utilities Line Maintenance crews are working to repair a ruptured 20-inch water main near the intersection of North Pennsylvania Avenue and Northwest 16th Street. All northbound and southbound lanes of Pennsylvania Avenue are temporarily closed from NW 15th Street to NW 16th Street.

OKC ice and snow situation update Feb. 12
Public Works crews are salting along OKC snow routes in 12-hour shifts around the clock until street conditions improve. Stay home if you can. If you must drive, stay on the City’s snow routes. Visit okc.gov/prepare to see the regional snow route map.

OKC Parks recreation centers closed Feb. 13
OKC Parks recreation centers, community centers, performing arts centers, senior centers and gyms will be closed Thursday, Feb. 13. All outdoor parks will be open 5 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Martin Park Nature Center and Will Rogers Gardens will keep their regular winter hours.

Oklahoma City announces new Animal Welfare superintendent
City Manager Craig Freeman announced today that Ronnie Schlabs has been selected as the Animal Welfare superintendent. He will start on March 24. Schlabs has 17 years of experience in animal welfare. Most recently, he served as the senior director of field services for the Nebraska Humane Society.

Oklahoma City Municipal Court sessions canceled for Thursday, Feb. 13
Presiding Judge Philippa C. James has canceled Oklahoma City Municipal Court sessions on Thursday, Feb. 13, due to predictions of icy weather. All cases will be continued without assessing a continuance fee.

Avers elected to represent OKC’s Ward 3; April 1 runoff set for Ward 7
Newcomer Katrina Bedell Avers was elected to represent Oklahoma City Council’s Ward 3, defeating incumbent Barbara Peck in the Feb. 11 Oklahoma City Council general election. Ward 7 candidates Camal Pennington and John A. Pettis, Jr., are scheduled to face off in a runoff election on April 1.

Frontier Airlines offers nonstop flights to Orlando beginning March 7

Public Works crews ready to respond to freezing weather
Oklahoma City’s Public Works Department will report to work at midnight tonight to respond to potential freezing on bridges and overpasses along the City’s snow routes, Trucks mounted with salt spreaders will treat slick spots if ice begins to form.

Flag raising marks site of MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium in downtown OKC
Today, area leaders commemorated the location of the future MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium with a flag raising event. In the days and months ahead, the flagpole will carry various emblems, starting with rotating “OKC for Soccer” and “OKC es Fútbol” flags, until the stadium is completed in spring 2027.

OKC’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center to temporarily close Feb. 11 for 30 days
The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will temporarily close for maintenance starting Feb. 11, with a projected re-opening date of March 13. The floors will be refinished with a protective coating, which prevents the migration of hazardous chemicals through the Center’s concrete flooring.

City Council approves Ross Heights and Stockyards City as new Strong Neighborhood Initiative communities
Oklahoma City Council designated Ross Heights and Stockyards City as new Strong Neighborhood Initiative (SNI) areas earlier this month. SNI is a targeted neighborhood revitalization program, funded through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, that works alongside neighborhoods.
