City Manager Craig Freeman announced today that Ronnie Schlabs has been selected as the Animal Welfare superintendent. He will start on March 24. Schlabs has 17 years of experience in animal welfare. Most recently, he served as the senior director of field services for the Nebraska Humane Society.

Newcomer Katrina Bedell Avers was elected to represent Oklahoma City Council’s Ward 3, defeating incumbent Barbara Peck in the Feb. 11 Oklahoma City Council general election. Ward 7 candidates Camal Pennington and John A. Pettis, Jr., are scheduled to face off in a runoff election on April 1.

Today, area leaders commemorated the location of the future MAPS 4 multipurpose stadium with a flag raising event. In the days and months ahead, the flagpole will carry various emblems, starting with rotating “OKC for Soccer” and “OKC es Fútbol” flags, until the stadium is completed in spring 2027.

The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will temporarily close for maintenance starting Feb. 11, with a projected re-opening date of March 13. The floors will be refinished with a protective coating, which prevents the migration of hazardous chemicals through the Center’s concrete flooring.
