Some products in your home (certain paints, stains and varnishes, cleaners, polishes, automotive products, pesticides and herbicides) may contain hazardous components. The used, or leftover contents, of these products are known as "household hazardous waste."

If thrown in the trash, these items can contaminate our environment. This pollution can affect streams, lakes, wildlife and possibly our drinking water.

The facility provides an environmentally safe place for residents to dispose of household hazardous waste and is free to Oklahoma City residents. Please bring your City water bill as proof of residency.

Do not pour chemicals into a single container. Leave them in their original packages.

When purchasing household and lawn chemicals, paint products, or automotive products, keep in mind how you plan to use, store and dispose of each product and its container.

• Only buy what you need. Don't "stock up" on products you may never use. It can cost almost as much or more than the purchase price to properly dispose of household chemicals.
• Whenever possible, purchase alternatives to environmentally hazardous household chemicals.
• Read labels and use only as directed.
• Ask your neighbors and friends if they need any of the products you do not use.
• Store hazardous materials in cool, dry areas away from children and pets.
• Keep materials in original containers or properly labeled.
• With proper care, empty containers can be disposed of safely.

Annual Spring Special Collection Event

Save your unwanted tires, computers, ammunition and medications for OKC’s annual Special Collection Event at the State Fairgrounds. OKC residents are welcome to drop off these items for safe and environmentally friendly disposal each spring. Bring your current Oklahoma City water bill as proof of residency. Accepted items include tires without wheels or rims, computers and peripherals, medications and ammunition. Items not accepted include business-related waste, household hazardous waste, household electronics such as TVs and microwaves and biohazardous waste. The Household Hazardous Waste Collection Center will also be open during the Special Collection event.

Mobile Neighborhood Collection Program

Residents may schedule a Mobile Collection event for their neighborhood. Our staff will work with your HOA to select a location near your neighborhood, such as a city park, and collect the same household hazardous waste that is accepted at our permanent collection center. The City will supply the personnel and equipment, and the neighborhood will select the date, provide volunteers, and advertise the event to their neighbors to promote attendance. Please note, this is not a "special collection" and we will not accept ammunition, tires, computers or medication.
