Application Process

Positions currently open for recruitment to both the public and City of Oklahoma City employees can be viewed on okc.gov/careers

City Employees must apply for ALL jobs (open to the public and open to City employees only) from the Opportunity Marketplace.

How to Apply (Non-City employees)

To submit an application for employment with the City of Oklahoma City, you will need a valid email address. You can search for jobs here.

Once you find a job you would like to apply for, click on the vacancy announcement. Scroll all the way down until you see the "Apply Now" button and click on it. To start your application, you must enter a valid email address and click "Next>".

Now you can complete all required fields and click, "Submit" at the bottom of the application. You may include attachments such as resumes, cover letters, forms, transcripts, or other professional licenses, etc., with your online application.

Note: It is recommended to draft your answers to the job questions in a separate Word document, so you can save and edit your work. You are unable to save your work in the application.

Only completed applications will be considered.

The Selection Process

Once you have submitted your application, the next step in the employment process is an objective evaluation of your qualifications. The information provided on your application is compared to the required and preferred qualifications indicated on the job announcement for the position.

Please make sure your application is accurate, complete, and current. You are encouraged to include details about the knowledge, skills, abilities, education, and experience you possess that directly relates to essential job functions of the position. Remember to attach any requested information such as transcripts, licenses, or certifications, etc.

Applicants whose qualifications best match the requirements of the position move to the next step in the selection process.

The next phase of the selection process may involve formal selection processes. Selection processes are used to evaluate applicant’s knowledge, skills, and abilities related to the duties and responsibilities of the position. Selection processes may include:

  • Practical Tests – Simulates tasks performed on the job.
  • Written Tests – Measures job knowledge.
  • Assessment Centers – Simulates actual situations encountered on the job. Used primarily for professional or executive positions.
  • Interview Board – A panel of evaluators ask preselected questions related to the job.

Potential candidates for employment will also undergo the following final tests:

  • Criminal Background Checks
  • Post-offer Drug Screens
  • Post-offer Medical Examination

You can monitor your application status by logging into your account (with your email address and password) throughout the duration of the employment process.
