From flowers to LARPing, OKC Parks has something for everyone this month

The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department has some upcoming classes to help prepare you for spring and a sports offering that may surprise you.

Plant Propagation Basics

Will Rogers Gardens, 3400 NW 36th St., is teaching you the basics of starting plants from cuttings and seeds on March 2. You’ll learn various methods of rooting and growing plants from seeds you collected in the fall or have purchased for this growing season. Registration is $25 fee per participant and ends March 2. All ages are welcome.

Iris Hybridizing

Will Rogers Gardens and the Iris Society have the privilege of bringing you the world-renowned iris hybridizer and speaker Paul Black on March 8 at Will Rogers Gardens, 3400 NW 36th St. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. for a free barbecue dinner, and the program will follow at 7 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to get your iris questions answered. All ages are welcome.

Spring Boxwood Wreath

Learn how to make a boxwood wreath from cuttings at 9 a.m. March 9 at Will Rogers Gardens, 3400 NW 36th St. Take the boxwood to the next level, from being a simple yard or garden shrub to a beautifully hand-created piece of botanical art you’ve created with your own hands. Registration is $30 per participant and ends March 9. All ages are welcome.

Fencing Spring ‘24

Southern Oaks Recreation Center, 400 SW 66th St., is holding fencing classes on Wednesdays starting March 6. Kids can learn the basics of fencing for free from 6-7 p.m., and adults are welcome from 7-9 p.m. for only $2 per class. This is a fast-paced class that teaches traditional fencing and delves into medieval sparring. For more information, please call (405) 297-1449.
