The Utilities Department received the Gold Award for Excellence in Utility Management from the Association of Municipal Water Agencies (AMWA), during its national convention on Oct. 16. The award recognizes public water utilities for outstanding achievement in effective utility management.
To receive the award, the Utilities Department had to demonstrate it meets or exceeds industry requirements in ten specific areas of service, including sustainability, enterprise resiliency, customer service, financial management and employee engagement.
“This award represents our commitment to the customers we serve,” said Utilities Director Chris Browning. “Through their hard work each and every day, our employees are dedicated to providing safe, drinking water to more than 1.2 million customers in central Oklahoma. We are honored we could bring this award to Oklahoma City.”
This was the first time that the Utilities Department applied for AMWA’s Gold Award, which was given to only three municipal water utilities this year.
“As more people recognize how important adequate, reliable supplies of safe, clean drinking water are to public health and community sustainability, AMWA is pleased to spotlight the impressive achievements of public drinking water utilities that are leading the nation through innovative management practices, executive leadership and employee engagement,” said AMWA President Scott Potter, Director of Nashville Metro Water Services.
The Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies is an organization of the largest publicly owned drinking water systems in the United States, and its membership serves more than 140 million Americans with safe, clean drinking water.
