OKC Council Meeting Notes: May 2, 2017

The Oklahoma City Council meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays on the third floor of City Hall, 200 N Walker Ave. Live broadcasts are available on Cox Channel 20 and YouTube. A recording of each meeting is then added to the City's YouTube channel. Check out the meeting calendar for agendas and schedules.

Event permits

The Council approved permits Tuesday for:

Capitol Hill Main Street's "Cinco de Mayo en Calle Dos Cinco," May 5.
Hideaway-2's "V-dubs on Automobile Alley," May 6.
McNellies Group's "McNellie's Pub Run, " May 6.

Proposed budget introduced for next fiscal year

Budget Director Doug Dowler presented to the Council the proposed $1.377 billion budget for fiscal year 2018, which begins July 1. The $404.5 million General Fund, which pays for day-to-day operations, will be almost unchanged from the current fiscal year's amended budget. The total number of authorized and funded City staff positions will decrease by 16 to 4,644 under the proposed budget, the second straight year of staff reductions. Sales tax revenue is the City's primary source of operating funds, and receipts have declined compared to the same month the previous year in 18 of the last 19 months, including 12 in a row. Budget presentations will follow May 9, May 23 and June 6 as the Council convenes as the Finance Committee, with adoption set for June 13.

Construction contract awarded for final section of MAPS 3 Will Rogers Trail

The Council voted to award the construction contract for the final section of the MAPS 3 Will Rogers Trail to Shell Construction. The $2.5 million contract is for the southern portion of the trail from NW Grand Boulevard and NW 19th Street to the Oklahoma River at S May Avenue. The Will Rogers Trail, which is the second of three MAPS 3 Trails, connects the Lake Hefner Trails to the Oklahoma River Trails.
