Oklahoma City to host regional EPA stormwater conference

Post Date:08/08/2016 2:06 PM

Oklahoma City will host a regional conference this fall that will help communities continue to reduce pollution draining into natural waterways.

The 2016 Environmental Protection Agency Region 6 Stormwater Conference is set for Oct. 2-6 at the Sheraton Downtown Oklahoma City Hotel. The City of Oklahoma City, EPA, Texas A&M University-Kingsville and officials from Oklahoma, New Mexico, Louisiana, Arkansas and Texas are partners in hosting the conference.

“These conferences are where we can collaborate, exchange ideas, learn about new technology and build new relationships that will help keep our natural waterways clean,” said City of Oklahoma City Stormwater Quality Manager Raymond Melton. “Natural waterways are the source of our drinking water, and controlling pollution is the first step in keeping them clean.”

The 18th annual conference will feature workshops on grant writing, advanced mapping applications, construction techniques, regulatory compliance, technology, public outreach, program coordination and more.

Online registration for the conference is open.

Mayor Mick Cornett is scheduled to open the conference with brief remarks.
