Debris on your property
Do not take debris to parks or other public property. It's illegal and violations are subject to fines.
The City is picking up from residential trash customers, arterial streets, public schools, places of worship, right of ways, public medians and common areas along public streets. Many commercial properties (including apartment complexes, private schools, etc.) are responsible for their own debris removal.
There are three options for residents and some other properties to dispose of tree limbs from the ice storm:
Curbside pickup: Residential trash customers, public schools and places of worship can stack tree and limb debris at the curb for pickup.
For residential trash customers, both debris clean-up passes have been completed. Crews began on November 16, 2020 and have finished with both passes. Some crews will remain until February 15 to sweep up any areas missed. After that time, residents are advised to put out any remaining debris with their regular monthly bulky pick-up.
- Do not put Christmas trees in storm debris piles. Live Christmas trees can be set out in bulky waste piles.
- Avoid stacking limbs on water meters. If crews can’t access the home’s water meter they will have to estimate water usage for that month.
- Do not stack limbs on gas meters or around other obstructions.
- Avoid stacking limbs on sidewalks.
- Avoid stacking limbs on corners and other areas where pedestrians and drivers can't see each other around the piles.
- Cut tree limbs and logs into sections 10 feet long or shorter.
- Separate your limbs from regular bulky waste like furniture, carpeting or appliances. Tree debris that’s mixed with bulky waste won’t be collected. Find your regular bulky waste collection day at okc.gov/mytrashday. Regular bulky waste pickup is only for residential trash collection customers.
- Avoid stacking debris near poles, mailboxes and trees.
- Keep limbs out of the street. It causes safety issues for drivers.
- For residential trash customers, leaves can be bagged and put into Big Blue trash carts for normal trash pickup. Bagged leaves set out with bulky waste, storm debris or next to carts will not be picked up.
- Read more about residential curbside debris pickup here.
For major tree removal or trimming, like limbs and trunks leaning against a house, consider hiring a licensed and bonded tree trimming and removal company. Get the latest updated list of contractors with City of OKC licenses here.
Thank you in advance for your patience. No citations will be issued for tree debris properly stacked at the curb.
Landfill disposal: Residential trash customers can take tree and limb debris to one of four participating Oklahoma City landfills from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Saturday through Jan. 2. Read more here.
Burning (rural only): Residents in rural areas may burn tree debris if they have a burn permit from the Fire Marshal’s Office. With a permit, permission is needed each day of burning by calling the burn permit hotline at (405) 316-6843. Permit fees must be paid before burning. Read more here.
Electricity
Report power outages or downed power lines to OG&E:
- custcaredept@oge.com
- (405) 272-9595 or (800) 522-6870
- online (must be signed in to OG&E account)

If the electric infrastructure connected to your house is damaged, you may need an electrician to make repairs before OG&E can restore power to your home. Contact an electrician or OG&E for more information, or see this graphic from OG&E below. Here is a list of licensed electrical contractors in OKC.
