Kick-off 2024 with an OKC Parks class, league, audition or program

Line Dancing

Will Rogers Senior Center, 3501 Pat Murphy Dr., is hosting a line dancing class at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5. This class promotes healthy movement for seniors and teaches new dance moves. This course is free, and registration can be found here.                                  

Basketball FUNdamentals

Beginning 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8, kids can learn the fundamentals of basketball at the Willa D. Johnson Recreational Center, 909 Fredrick Douglass Ave. The course will focus on the various aspects of basketball, including dribbling, shooting, passing and defense. Registration is $5 per child per class for non-members of Willa D. Johnson Recreation Center. There are sessions nearly every Monday, Wednesday or Friday.

After School Kids Club

Southern Oaks Recreation Center, 6818 S. Walker Ave., is hosting an after-school “Kids Club” starting at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 8. Kids can socialize and make new friends as they play sports, games, and take part in arts and crafts programs. This program is $10 per child per month and is intended for kids 6-17. Registration for the January “Kids Club ends Jan. 31.

Peter and the Starcatcher Auditions

OKC Parks needs actors to audition for “Peter and the Starcatcher.” Come-and-go auditions will be held on Thursday, Jan. 11, and Friday, Jan. 12, from 7-10 p.m. in the Taylor Performing Arts Center, 1115 SW 70th St. Performers only sign up for one of the audition days. Bring a headshot and theatrical resume. If you don’t have one, there will be a place to write your experience on your audition form. You will need to prepare a 32-bar cut showing your range as well as be prepared to tell a short story (either fictional or personal). An accompanist will be provided, so please bring sheet music in an appropriate key for your voice.

This adult comedy is a century-old story of how a miserable orphan comes to be “The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up.” From marauding pirates and jungle tyrants to unwilling comrades and unlikely heroes, “Peter and the Starcatcher” playfully explores the depths of greed and despair and the bonds of friendship, duty and love.

Free Agent Winter Basketball

The men’s free agent basketball league is a nine-game season, with games beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the Johnnie L. Williams (JLW) Municipal Gym, 720 NW 8th St. Registration for the men’s free-agent basketball league is $40/player and ends Jan. 13. Participants must be 18 or older.

Women’s free agent basketball league is also a nine-game season with games beginning at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 14, at JLW Municipal Gym. Registration is $40/player and ends Jan. 14. Participants must be 18 or older.
