People ages 16 and up looking for a fun summer job with competitive pay are encouraged to apply for a job as a lifeguard, slide operator or cashier for the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.

Salaries for slide operators and cashiers start at $9.75 per hour, and pay for lifeguards starts between $13 and $15 per hour. Lifeguards can also qualify for a hiring bonus and incentive pay. The City’s goal is to hire 75 employees to work at four pools.

Those interested in working at a City pool can attend one of five hiring events at the Pete White Health and Wellness Center, 4021 S. Walker Ave.:

  • April 15 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
  • April 18 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • April 27 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
  • April 29 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • May 13 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Online applications will also be accepted at okc.gov/careers.

Lifeguards

Those interested in becoming a lifeguard are encouraged to bring their swimsuit and a towel to the hiring event and take a basic swim test as a part of their interview. Prior lifeguarding experience not required. Applicants will receive free training, and those who pass the tests will receive their certification.

Those who don’t pass the tests will be considered for other pool positions.

"We are excited to welcome new employees to our team as we gear up for the swimming season," said Mason Williams, supervisor, at Oklahoma City Parks & Recreation. "Our lifeguards play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment at our aquatic facilities, and we are proud to offer competitive pay and hiring incentives to attract top talent."
