Expect delays on Western in north OKC as school year begins amid construction

Post Date:08/07/2018 8:44 AM

Allow extra time for traffic on Western Avenue between NW 178th and NW 192nd streets as the school year begins during a widening and intersection improvement project.

Work on the intersection of Western and NW 178th should be finished by the end of August. Western is also being widened from NW 178th to NW 192nd, and one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained until the project is finished next spring.

A temporary pedestrian crossing light has been installed on Western just north of NW 178th at Washington Irving Elementary School, which holds its first day of classes Aug. 16. The crossing will help students, parents, teachers and staff cross Western safely during construction.

Parents dropping off and picking up students from school should expect traffic delays until construction is finished.

The $3.9 million Association of Central Oklahoma Governments project is being completed by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, in partnership with the City of Oklahoma City.
