Want to make your garden water smart? Then join local conservation experts and Master Gardeners during the City of Oklahoma City’s Water & Landscape Fest from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 at Bluff Creek Park, 11301 N Meridian Ave.
The Water & Landscape Fest features tours of the park’s water conservation garden and drip irrigation demonstrations, plus discussions on water-smart plant selection, pollinators, compost and soil health. Prize giveaways and water-smart kids’ activities are also part of the fun.
“We talk a lot about how people can use water more efficiently in their home landscape,” said Malarie Gotcher, Water Conservation Specialist with the Utilities Department, “but we rarely get a chance to show them how to put these ideas into action.”
Gotcher noted that conservation gardens like the one at Bluff Creek Park act as living examples of how water-saving landscapes work.
“Visitors will be able to see the kinds of plants that work well in Oklahoma climates, plus learn about soil media and water-saving irrigation techniques,” said Gotcher.
The Bluff Creek Water Conservation Garden is a partnership project between the City and Oklahoma State University, and is one of four water conservation gardens in OKC. The other three gardens are at the OSU-OKC campus, Myriad Botanical Gardens and Oklahoma City Zoo & Botanical Garden.
