A 9-foot-tall painted steel sculpture evoking growth and transformation has been installed in Oklahoma City’s Will Rogers Gardens.
“SEED,” a sculpture by Oklahoma artist Jonathan Hils, sits atop a 3-foot-tall base along the park’s walking trail.
“‘SEED’ is inspired by the growth and vibrancy of Will Rogers Gardens and its surrounding gardens,” Hils said. “The sculptural form is meant to represent a seed or pod which holds the potential or remnants of growth, beauty and transformation.”
The work was commissioned last year from OKC’s Pre Qualified Artist Pool (PDF).
“Hils’ work for Will Rogers Gardens is a great example of the type of site-specific work commissioned through the City of OKC’s art program,” said Office of Arts and Cultural Affairs Liaison Robbie Kienzle. “Successful site-specific work will respond to its environment and has a role to play in making it a great place. ‘SEED’ provides interest during a long walk through the gardens in an area on the north side that has less lighting and trees than the other areas of the park. It can also be seen from NW 36th Street, where drivers may spot it on their commute and want to come back to the park and see it close up.”
Will Rogers Gardens is at 3400 NW 36th St.
