OKC Council Meeting Notes: April 12, 2016

The Oklahoma City Council meets at 8:30 a.m. Tuesdays on the third floor of City Hall, 200 N Walker Ave. Live broadcasts are available on Cox Channel 20, YouTube and okc.gov. A recording of each meeting is then added to the City's YouTube channel.

Event permits 

The Council approved permits Tuesday for:

  • Historic Film Row/Film Exchange District's "The Exchange," May 20, June 17, July 15, Aug. 19, Sept. 16 and Oct. 21.
  • Oklahoma Family Center for Autism's "Autism Oklahoma Piece Walk & 5K," May 7.
  • Oklahoma Mustang Club's "National Mustang Day," April 17.
  • Oklahoma City National Memorial Foundation's "Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon," April 24.

Council approves allocation of TIF funds for west downtown area projects

The Council voted Tuesday to approve the allocation of tax increment finance (TIF) funds to support redevelopment projects for the dilapidated Sunshine Cleaners building and Townhouse Apartments west of downtown. The council approved $550,000 for the Sunshine Cleaners project at NW 1st Street and N Classen Boulevard, which will be redeveloped into a mixed-use building with its iconic neon sign preserved. The council approved $350,000 for the Townhouse Apartments redevelopment project, which will convert what the current owner described as a "flophouse" into remodeled apartments.

Council approves funds for 2016 Citizen Survey 

The Council voted Tuesday to approve a contract for $30,450 for ETC Institute to perform the 2016 Citizen Survey. ETC has conducted citizen surveys for the Council five times previously. The Council uses the Citizen Survey as a tool to evaluate the performance of city services and gauge resident satisfaction.

Agreement approved for negotiation of Verizon IndyCar Series race 

The Council also voted Tuesday to approve an exclusivity agreement with Mark Perrone to enter into negotiations regarding hosting and conducting a Verizon IndyCar Series race in Oklahoma City next year or in 2018. Any agreement Perrone reaches to host the race would be subject to final approval by the City Council. The Verizon IndyCar Series is an open-wheel motorsports racing competition that includes the Indianapolis 500 as its cornerstone event. The series includes races on closed city streets known as road courses in cities including Boston and Toronto.

Council approves contracts for Atoka Pipeline project 

The Council voted Tuesday to approve about $13.4 million on contracts for engineering services for the Atoka Pipeline project. The project is part of the City of OKC's drinking water supply. The pipeline brings water from southeastern Oklahoma to Lake Stanley Draper in southeast OKC. The vote Tuesday awarded contracts to Olsson Associates ($1.6 million), Triad Design Group ($1.6 million and $1.6 million), Johnson & Associates ($1.9 million), C.H. Guernsey & Company ($1.7 million), MacArthur Associated Consultants ($2.2 million) and Smith Roberts Baldischwiler ($2.7 million).
