(March 9, 2016) - The City of OKC wants to enlist your help in learning more about our historic places, why they’re important and how to protect and revitalize them.
preserveokc, our first citywide historic preservation plan, kicks off with a public discussion from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 5 in the Civic Center Music Hall’s Meinders Hall of Mirrors, 201 N Walker Ave. Doors open at 6 p.m.
preserveokc is a recommendation of planokc, the City of OKC comprehensive plan adopted last year. preserveokc will outline policies and incentives encouraging the preservation of OKC’s historic places.
The kickoff meeting is the first step in one of the most important parts of preserveokc: finding out what places residents think should be preserved and why. Community input will continue to be an important part of preserveokc as it moves forward.
“Every part of the city contributes to our character and our identity,” says City Historic Preservation Officer Katie Friddle. “Anyone interested in preserving Oklahoma City’s historic places should attend this meeting and help us shape the City’s future approach to preserving our past.”
