(October 4, 2012) - Conceptual drawings of the MAPS 3 downtown park will be revealed and discussed during a community input meeting at 6 p.m. on October 25. The meeting will be held in the fourth floor auditorium of the Downtown Library, 300 Park Avenue. Everyone is invited to attend.
“Citizen feedback is a critical part of the MAPS 3 planning process,” Mayor Mick Cornett said. “We depend on residents’ input to help us design an iconic park that reflects our vibrant community.”
The park’s designer, Hargreaves Associates, will facilitate the meeting. Hargreaves designed Crissy Field in San Francisco, CA, Discovery Green in Houston, TX and 21st Century Waterfront Park in Chattanooga, TN.
This is the second of three community meetings to solicit input on the 70-acre park. More than 130 people packed the library’s auditorium during the first meeting on September 13.
“We received valuable input from the first meeting and hope that continues as we continue with the design of the park.” MAPS Program Manager David Todd said.
The $132 million park will be made up of a 40-acre upper section and a 30-acre lower section which is connected by Oklahoma City Skydance Bridge. The park is within the boundaries of Hudson to the west, Robinson to the east the Oklahoma City Boulevard to the north and the Oklahoma River on the south.
Land acquisition for the upper park is 95 percent complete and construction is expected to begin in 2013. Log on to www.okc.gov/maps3 for project details.
