A portion of the walking and running trails in Bluff Creek Park, 10941 North Meridian Ave, is being expanded thanks to a $175,000 donation from Continental Resources, Inc. to the Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department.
The project will expand a portion of the paved trail that loops around the western side of the park. Construction is set to begin in early summer of 2014.
To accommodate the new paved trail, a part of a single-track dirt mountain bike trail that winds through the wooded area of Bluff Creek Park has been realigned. Park planners worked with members of the Oklahoma Earthbike Fellowship to help develop the new alignment for the dirt trail.
During the project, sections of the dirt mountain bike trail may close for short periods of time near the construction site. Signage will be placed in the park to inform users of the construction and ask them to follow traffic directions.
The Oklahoma City Parks Department recently completed multiple improvements to Bluff Creek Park, including new landscaped entry gates off of Meridian Avenue, a new parking lot, two new picnic pavilions, plus walkways and enhanced landscaping near the trail entry area. Funding for the improvements came from capital improvement monies from Fiscal Year 2013-14. In addition to the trail expansion, the donation from Continental Resources, Inc. also funded the building of a third picnic pavilion, which has been named after the company.
