Post Date:03/05/2014

Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett was reelected to a fourth term as Mayor on Tuesday, March 4 garnering 66 percent of residents’ vote.  He defeated Ward 2 Councilman Ed Shadid (33 percent), Joe B. Sarge Nelson (.8 percent) and Phil Hughes (.7 percent).

“Thanks to the thousands of voters, who had to deal with less-than-ideal weather conditions, whose message was clear – we want to continue Oklahoma City’s remarkable renaissance,” Cornett said. “We will continue to invest in our community, our neighborhoods, our schools and our public safety. Together we’re building a world-class city.”

In all, 47,934 residents voted in the election. Cornett will be sworn into office on Tuesday, April 8 in the City Council Chamber of City Hall. He has served as mayor for ten years and, if he fulfills his four year term, he will be the longest serving mayor in Oklahoma City’s history.

Cornett is the City’s 35th mayor and the pay is $24,000 annually.

Cornett’s election history is as follows:
First term: 2004 by 58 percent
Second term: 2006 by 87 percent
Third term: 2010 by 58 percent
Fourth term: 2014 by 66 percent
