Planning Commissioner Camal Pennington was elected to represent Oklahoma City Council’s Ward 7, defeating former councilperson John Pettis, Jr. in the April 1 Oklahoma City Council runoff election. Ward 7 is primarily located in NE OKC.

All election results are unofficial until certified by the Oklahoma County Election Board.

Pennington will replace Councilman Lee E. Cooper, Jr., who the Council appointed to fill Nikki Nice’s seat after she was elected to represent State Senate District 48.

Bradley Carter (Ward 1), Katrina Avers (Ward 3), Todd Stone (Ward 4) and Camal Pennington (Ward 7) will be sworn into office at 8:30 a.m. on April 29 in the City Council Chamber.

Carter and Stone ran unopposed and were automatically elected.

The nonpartisan Oklahoma City Council has nine members: the Mayor, who is elected citywide, and one member from each of Oklahoma City’s eight Wards. They serve part-time as the head of the City’s Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor’s annual salary is $24,000, and each Council member’s annual salary is $12,000.
