Ward 2 Councilperson James Cooper hosts Nov. 1 town hall on homelessness

Post Date:10/24/2023 9:28 AM

Everyone is invited to join Ward 2 Councilperson James Cooper for a community meeting on homelessness from 5:30 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Tower Theatre, 425 NW 23rd St.

Topics include a new governance board for homelessness, encampment rehousing program, youth homelessness, crisis response and outreach, public safety response, eviction prevention and landlord-tenant support, affordable housing needs and a roundtable discussion. After the presentations, attendees can visit one-on-one with City staff and partner agencies responding to homelessness.

“Homelessness and affordable housing is one of the top concerns for residents right now,” Councilperson Cooper said. “My hope is that you leave this event with an increased understanding of the extent of the problem and some of its causes, the many efforts and work being done to address homelessness and feel empowered to better connect those experiencing homelessness with community resources.”

Councilperson Cooper was elected to City Council in 2019 and re-elected in 2023.
