Employees with the City of Oklahoma City pledged to donate $525,900 through the 2021 Heart of the City charitable giving campaign.
The Heart of the City Campaign benefits four federations: Allied Arts, Community Health Charities, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma and United Way of Central Oklahoma. Employees directed their giving to over 102 local nonprofit organizations that make up the four federations.
Of the City’s 5,000 employees, 2,571 made pledges or donated cash to the charitable campaign and 351 employees pledged to give more than $500.
“City employees take pride in our community and it shows,” said Assistant City Manager Laura Johnson. “They stepped up to help our residents in need by pledging more than half a million dollars to charity again this year.
Employees raised the money through pledges and cash contributions as well as silent auctions, bake sales, raffles, rallies and other fundraisers that were held last fall.
“The City of Oklahoma City’s giving campaign is one of most successful in the state,” said United Way executive director Debby Hampton. “Their contributions improve the quality of life for thousands of residents.”
