Incumbent Councilperson Todd Stone was re-elected Tuesday to the Oklahoma City Council with a majority victory (64.29%) in Ward 4. Runoffs are April 6 between the top two candidates in Wards 1 and 3.

No candidate in Wards 1 or 3 won an outright majority Tuesday, so the two candidates with the most votes advance to the April 6 runoff.

The nonpartisan runoff election will decide who represents Wards 1 and 3 on the Council for the next four-year term, which begins April 13. See a Ward map at okc.gov/WardMap.

Councilperson Todd Stone and incumbent Ward 7 Councilperson Nikki Nice, who was unopposed in her Ward, also begin four-year terms on April 13.

All election results are unofficial until certified by the Oklahoma County Election Board.

About the runoff

Candidates in the April 6 runoff, listed in the order in which they appeared on Tuesday’s primary election ballot, are:

Ward 1

  • Shay Varnell
  • Bradley Carter

Ward 3

  • Barbara Young
  • Jessica Martinez-Brooks

Recent voter-approved amendments to the Oklahoma City Charter do not apply to the current City Council election. The Charter amendments will be sent to the Governor for approval after the runoff election on April 6.

The City Council has nine members: the Mayor, who is elected citywide, and one member from each of Oklahoma City’s eight Wards. They serve part-time at the head of the City’s Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor’s annual salary is $24,000, and each Council member’s annual salary is $12,000.
