The City of Oklahoma City and the Central Oklahoma Storm Water Alliance (COSWA) are offering discounted rain barrels for sale to encourage residents to conserve water and reduce pollution.
You can buy the discounted rain barrels online at www.upcycle-products.com for $63.50 each. Click on “where to purchase” on the top bar of the page and choose the state of Oklahoma to find participating municipalities.
The deadline to order is April 28.
“Rain barrels collect water that drains from your home’s gutter system,” said City Environmental Protection Manager Derek Johnson. “Watering with rain water is better for your plants, and it’s free.”
You can use the 55-gallon barrels to collect water from rainfall, helping to promote sustainability in our community by limiting the amount of drinking water used on lawns and gardens. The barrels come with screens to keep out critters and mosquitoes.
Rain barrels ordered online, or by mail, can be picked up on either May 8 or May 15 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, 1621 S Portland Ave.
