The Council approved permits Tuesday for:

• Capitol Hill Mainstreet's "Fiestas de las Americas," Sept. 30.
• Downtown OKC's "Brick-or-Treat," Oct. 24.
• Oklahoma Fallen heroes Foundation's "45IBCT Fallen Heroes Half Marathon," Sept. 30.
• St. Francis of Assisi Church/Rosary School's "Rosary and St. Francis Oktoberfest," Oct. 1.
• Toby Keith Foundation/OK Kids Korral's "Walk a Mile in Their Boots," Sept. 30.

Council accepts official election results, enacts voter-approved sales tax programs

The Council accepted the official Better Streets, Safer City special election results from the election board, and voted to enact the the sales tax initiatives as approved by voters. Voters approved a 10-year, $967 million bond package, a 27-month extension of the expiring MAPS 3 tax to raise $240 million for street projects and a permanent 1/4 cent sales tax to hire more police officers and firefighters. Bond sales will begin next year as authorized by the Council. The sales taxes begin Jan. 1, the day after the MAPS 3 penny sales tax expires.

Council receives Priorities update on OKC's transportation system

City officials provided the Council with an update Tuesday on one of the official Council Priorities: Develop a Transportation System that Works for All Residents. The report shows growth every month in EMBARK's expanded weeknight bus service this year, among other highlights.

Convention & Visitors Bureau reports uptick in social media following

An annual gain in Oklahoma City Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) social media followers by about 20 percent is another indicator of OKC's growing success as a tourism and entertainment draw, CVB President Mike Carrier told the Council in his quarterly update. Hotel tax revenue funds the CVB, which promotes tourism in Oklahoma City and recruits conventions and tour groups to choose OKC and boost our economy.
