Post Date:08/31/2015

City Manager Jim Couch announced today the selection of LaShawn R. Thompson as Municipal Courts Administrator.

The City conducted a nationwide search for the position.

“LaShawn brings a wealth of experience working with everyone involved in our Municipal Courts system, from judges and attorneys to juvenile offenders who need guidance to make the most of second chances,” Couch said. “The Municipal Courts are in good hands with LaShawn’s leadership and management skills.”

Thompson began her career with Oklahoma City in 1999 as a probation officer. She was promoted two years later to chief probation officer, spending the next 14 years managing a variety of legal and administrative programs and initiatives. She was promoted in May to interim assistant director.

Thompson will oversee approximately 81employees in five divisions:
    • Court Administration
    • Court Case and Enforcement
    • Facility Operations
    • Municipal Judicial Services
    • Probation Services

“I’ve spent most of my career in the Municipal Courts, and I’m excited to have earned the opportunity to use my experience in a leadership role,” Thompson said. “My goal is to use my work ethic, enthusiasm and supportive, open management style to bring out the best in my staff and make Oklahoma City residents proud.”

Thompson earned her master’s degree in human relations with an emphasis in leadership and organizational management from the University of Oklahoma and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Central Oklahoma.
