The Oklahoma City Community Foundation and Western Avenue District Association are the recipients of the 2016 Curtis A. Schwartz Cityscape Award, presented every two years for outstanding construction, design, restoration or renovation.
Mayor Mick Cornett presented the award at a City Council meeting this month. The award was created in 1983 by the Oklahoma City Arts Commission and renamed in 1985 in memory of Curtis A. Schwarz, a great advocate for local arts.
The Oklahoma City Community Foundation was honored for “FLAMENCO,” a work by local artist Jonathan Hils in memory of John Belt. It’s in a median in the Paseo Arts District.
The Western Avenue District Association was honored for murals presented along Western Avenue over the last two years, sponsored by the OKC Midtown Rotary and Google, Inc.
The award is primarily presented to businesses or other groups that make a contribution to the aesthetic quality of Oklahoma City with art, architecture or landscaping accessible to the public.
